Federal Communications Commission (FCC)—-manages the import and use of radio frequency devices, including computers, fax machines, electronic devices, radio receiving and transmitting equipment, radio-controlled toys, telephones, personal computers and other products that may harm personal safety. If these products want to be exported to the United States, they must be tested and approved by a government-authorized laboratory in accordance with FCC technical standards. Importers and customs agents must declare that each radio frequency device complies with the FCC standard, that is, the FCC license.

All communication electronic products entering the United States need to be certified by the FCC, that is, to be tested and approved by laboratories directly or indirectly authorized by the FCC in accordance with the FCC technical standards.
As we all know, electronic products have always been Amazon’s hottest and most sold products. The Amazon US and European sites are the main e-commerce platforms for sellers to sell. Electronic products are in peak season almost all year round, unlike seasonal products that distinguish between off-season and peak season, so sellers should pay special attention to those who go to the United States. Electronic products need to do FCC compulsory certification, and those going to Europe need CE certification. For example, electronic products sold in the United States or Europe must require compulsory certification from the corresponding exporting country.
If there is no compulsory certification in the sales, once found, the product will be confiscated and fined, and at the same time, it will bear legal responsibility. For example, a foreign trade company in Shenzhen was fined 2.14 million for exporting to the United States without FCC certification. Such examples are not uncommon. It is recommended that major sellers do the corresponding mandatory certification on the platform of the corresponding exporting country in order to avoid risks. Whether you seize the first opportunity in the market depends on whether you are fully prepared.
FCC certification classification
FCC has different control levels for different products. Based on this, FCC certification is divided into three types:
- Certification:
The Telecommunications Certification Body (TCB) reviews the samples and test data submitted by the applicant, and if it complies with the FCC rules, it will authorize the device with an FCC ID number. Mostly used for general radio product applications. Applicable devices for this method include various short-distance, low-power transmitters, wireless phones, Bluetooth devices, WLAN devices, etc. - DoC:
The party in charge of the equipment (usually the manufacturer or importer) tests the product at a qualified testing agency designated by the FCC to ensure that the equipment meets the relevant technical standards and retains the test report. The certification does not require FCC personnel to review the test report. Manufacturers can use their own The way of authentication. The products for this type of application are mainly IT products and peripheral auxiliary equipment. This is the most widely used and common way at present. There are many products involved, and the certification agency must be authorized by NVLAP/A2LA. - Vertification:
Manufacturers or importers ensure that their products have undergone the necessary tests to confirm that the products meet the relevant technical standards and keep the test reports.
The difference between CE certification and FCC certification
CE certification includes EMC Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive, LVD Low Voltage Directive, RED Wireless Directive, RoHS Environmental Protection Directive, ERP Energy Efficiency Directive, MD Machinery Directive, etc., which is equivalent to the passport of the manufacturer’s products in the European market. CE is the abbreviation of CONFORMITE EUROPEENNE, which stands for European Conformity Certification. Products affixed with the “CE” mark can be sold in the markets of EU member states, and there is no need to apply for the certification of each member state separately, which facilitates the free circulation of goods in each member state.
FCC certification is a mandatory certification for electromagnetic compatibility in the United States. It is a requirement of the Federal Communications Commission. It is mainly aimed at 9K-6000GHZ electronic and electrical products. Interference intensity of external radio communications.
The main difference is: CE certification is mandatory certification of the European Union, and FCC certification is compulsory certification of the United States.
